Working on Rant Animation

Here are some screen shots of Chris from the character animation that I am doing for the Alpha-Rant shorts that will be included on the CDs. It's looking pretty slick so far and the animation tests are going well. I'm hoping to have a demo preview up early next week.

I think you've captured Chris' grumpy looks perfectly. When will we see the animated Joe pics?

Those hands and forearms are awesome! Did you use a reference or were those off the top of your head?

I'm actually using an animation technique called rotoscoping. I made movies with my digital camera of the movements and used them as a reference. You have to distil it down to a reasonable amount of frames, I'm actually only using 5 to 7 different possitions per motion, but you can get some fairly realistic motion by spacing the keyframes in different ways.

The Chris "avatar" looks a lot younger then the real deal...or at least the photos of the real deal.

I know it's hard to believe, but it's a cartoon. O_o That's why I'm not using photos.

Cartoons can still look as old as the real person. Cartoon Chris looks like he's 16. A well drawn 16 year-old, but a 16 year-old nonetheless.

Dear Joe:

A comics site called "Red String" advertised on Megatokyo, and by following the link to her site, I found YOUR site.

I'm posting this just to tell you that I am stunned- absolutely speechless- at the magnificcent quality of both your art and your most excellent web presentation of your strip. I can't even imagine how much time it moust take to render those beautiful full color strips.

You must be as dedicated as you are talented. I wish you great success in this endeavor.

Sincerely,

Somebody's Mom (AKA mentalageof_4 on live journal.)

PS I'll probably read from the beginning to the current installment tonight- can't wait to share this with my action-adventure loving teens (well, providing it's not x-rated in the latter story arcs.)
