Like Diet Coke from the Tap Only Without the Ice

New Coke Zero

Like a good restaurant diet coke without the ice, but with the same effect as if it had ice in it, only without the cubes.

I have to say that although I think it's funny that Coke has three versions of essentially the same product out right now; Diet Coke, Diet Coke with Splenda, and Coca-Cola Zero, That this version might be the best. It's hard to say after half a bottle, but I'm liking it so far. While Diet Coke with Splenda tastes like Diet Coke with splenda in it, and Diet Coke tastes like itself, Zero is like a less harsh version of Diet Coke. It is sweetened with a blend of aspartame and acesulfame potassium which I guess cuts down on the Aspartame after taste you usually get with Diet Coke.

I have noticed a slight metallic taste on my tongue now though. Still, as someone who will sit and drink 3 to 6 cans of Diet Coke in a row, I can see this one being able to hold up to the cumulative effect. DC with Splenda does NOT.

And what's that cool-looking coaster in the background...? :)

Thanks so much for the kind words (and great photos) from the other weekend. Hope you don't mind, but I shared the link with a few people. Still getting caught up, but will be in touch soon. Congrats on A-Kon!

Diet drinks aren't particularly good for ones health… have you something against naturally occuring sugars (fructose, sucrose)? Claiming you are 'watching your weight' would be a lazy response, IMHO. I would understand if you were an extreme diabetic but I find that unlikely.

Pumping yourself full of stuff which was once listed as a potential biological weapon by the Pentagon can't be that good for you.

Some say 'Gulf War syndrome' could have been caused due to mass consumption of soft drinks combined with sufficient heat (29°C) to break the aspartame down into methanol, formaldehyde, diketopiperazine and formic acid (unlikely, but chemically possible).

The US FDA process allowing aspartame to be used in US foodstuffs was rather dodgy as well… just so you know, a US$350M lawsuit was launched against NutraSweet/Monstanto (*shiver*) and the American Diabetes Association over manufacturing and promotion of aspartame in Sept. 2004.

Perhaps all of that is scare-mongering, but what have you got to lose by not drinking diet? Are regularly sweetened drinks more expensive (or unavailable?) in the USA?

I used to like diet Pepsi, but it's never consistent taste wise, and for the last 4 years I haven't gotten a good batch. Also, as soon as you open it the carbonation is gone.

The amounts of those substances created by metabolizing aspartame are insignificant. Even if 100% of the aspartame was converted to diketopiperazine, it'd be well below the FDA-established intake allowance.

Also, sufficient quantities of ANYTHING (even water) can cause severe problems. Anyone who drinks 50 diet sodas a day thinking they won't experience any adverse affects isn't any smarter than the person who drinks a case of non-diet soda a day and wonders why they're fat.

Oh, and Coke Zero is based on the Classic Coke formula, while Diet Coke is based on the New Coke formula (or vice-versa, I think). That's why Coke Zero tastes different.

Anyone who drinks anything with aspartame is a fool. I'm sorry but if you actually think this is healthy and can shrug off the guy who wrote the more extensive warning on the issue up there like you did, you're overlooking something quite serious. Normal commercial sodas are bad enough...what you're drinking here is straight chemicals. I don't know about Gulf War Syndrome; but I do know aspartame is one of the worst things put in these vile diet drinks. Then again, you may also think pharmaceuticals are there to get rid of illnesses.

Goodluck and may the torrent of chemicals you are flushing down your throat have mercy on your body, your health, and your immune system :/

Ehh and before I close this, it should be noted I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I just appreciate -and use- common sense.

I never said anything about thinking it was healthy or good for you.
